Group Tours & Private Workshop Experiences with the Artisans

Baja California Sur

  • Local ceramicist India Maya, invites you into her home studio for unique immersive tours where participants will get insights into her process, have the option of getting their hands on the clay to make their own piece, and leave with a keepsake.

  • Spend the afternoon in the workshop with INDIA MAYA hosted by THE CO-OP BAJA

    Tours may include:

    • Hands-on Baja Sur indigenous red clay-making demo

    • Create your own hand-built piece

    • Assist in building natural pit-fire to finish the ceramic process

    • Sip mezcal with the maker fireside during the pit-fire to learn about her process

    • Keepsake gifted from the artisan

    • Special Pricing on all pieces purchased directly from the artisan’s studio at the time of visit (including commissions)

  • Public group tours will be held a few times a year. Subscribe to the mailing list to learn about them first!

    Private tours may be arranged by request as the maker is available.

GUADALAJARA: Jan 16, 2025 

Jalisco

  • Get to know one of Tlaquepaque's emerging artisans from the highly-respected Padilla family of ceramicists.

  • We will spend half the day touring the workshop and trying our hand at a step of the process, alongside the maker. The tour includes a gift from the artisan, and special pricing on any purchases or orders made during the tour. The tour concludes with lunch together in the family's nearby hacienda.

  • January 16, 2025

    The day may be added on to your own visit to Guadalajara, or we can coordinate a full itinerary for you including airport transfers, lodging, guided shopping in Tonala and el Centro and additional experiences like mezcal tastings.

TEOTITLAN DEL VALLE: Date options below!

Oaxaca

  • Following the introduction to natural dyeing techniques held in Todos Santos in March 2024 with Luis and Emiliano of Casa Cruz, we are thrilled to offer a more expansive hands-on learning opportunity at the families’ home workshop in Teotitlán del Valle, just outside of Oaxaca city.

  • Below is a sample of the workshop that will be held at Casa Cruz.

    • Day 1: Cochineal Dye focus hands-on learning with Lunch at the workshop

    • Day 2: Tarragon Dye focus hands-on learning & exploring how ingredients are discovered around the natural environment of the village

    • Day 3: Indigo Dye focus hands-on learning with lunch at the workshop

    The tour may include additional days to opt-into including visits to other artisans in the area including candle-makers, cooking classes, and mezcalerias.

  • We have three date options, the most popular wins! (A minimum of 3 people are needed to hold the workshop):

    Optional add-ons include group lodging, airport transfers, group dinners, and activities such as mole cooking classes, guided shopping and tours to other landmarks in the area.
