ARTISAN SPOTLIGHT

Casa Cruz, Teotitlàn del Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico

Casa Cruz is a family-founded textile business based in Teotitlàn del Valle, Oaxaca. Fidel, his wife Maria, and now their sons, Luis and Emiliano, carry on the tradition of foraging ingredients from the land for their bespoke natural dyes to make their uniquely beautiful tapestries that are sold around the world. View our available inventory for sale here.

How it began…

Over 30 years ago, Fidel began to explore his native Oaxaca to develop natural dyes from the environment, that has garnered the family recognition as master dyers and weavers devoted to the environment and the rescue of ancient techniques. The family has received recognition written and ceremonial for their work.

How it’s going…

Education of technique and legacy, is as important as preservation of craft for the family.

In addition to selling their work around the world, we are thrilled to partner on hands-on learning experiences. In 2024, we welcomed Luis and Emiliano to Todos Santos for three days of dyeing, weaving and learning together in the garden of Hablando Mexicano and Santa Terra’s Oystera. View the gallery here!

What’s next?

In 2025, we are partnering again to travel to the families’ homestead for an immersive 4-5 tour of their process and Zapotecan culture. If you are interested in one of the limited spaces on the tour, please message us and stay tuned for information on the tour later this summer to book.
